The Battle of Arcot. At Arcot, in 1751, Robert Clive and 300 men faced an Indian army of 10,000. The Indians had many pieces of artillery and their attack was led by armoured elephants. But the encounter lasted only an hour, at the end of which time the Indian army was in flight. Original artwork for illustration on p5 of Look and Learn issue no 308 (9 December 1967).
