Caption | A kitchen in which Sir Watkin Williams Wynn MP is rotated on a spit before a fire. Engraving, 1745. A man tends the fire with a large poker out of which pour the following words: 'place and pention, Hannover troops, excise, men no votes, army reduced, votes of credit, supplies grants'. Two men to the right turn the spit. Far left a servant displays the menu. Three more spits hang above the fireplace with inscriptions. The 'knight' being roasted is Sir Watkin Williams Wynn, a new member of parliament who supported the 'broad bottom' administration of 1744 which had disappointed the nation. Created March 1745. Welsh. Roasting (Cooking). Williams-Wynn, Watkin (1692–1749). Work ID: pbcvwq4u. |
