| Caption | Dressed as a beadle Joseph Hume kicks over a basket containing oranges, the wares of the Duke of Cumberland who is dressed as a female street seller. Coloured lithograph by HB (John Doyle), 1836. Lord Kenyon is also carrying a basket of oranges. Sir Robert Peel and Lord John Russell are dressed as policemen. Watching the fracas are Lord Roden and Sir Harcourt Lees. Joseph Hume (1777–1855) attacked the Irish orangemen or the Orange society which Ernest Augustus, Duke of Cumberland, their Grand Master had revived. Cumberland was accused of exploiting his position to pose as the defender of protestantism, and to affect the loyalty of the army. Created 1836. Orangemen. Robert Peel (1788–1850).
