In the background Napoleon has been tossed in the air by a bull with a man's face, representing John Bull On 21 February 1814 Captain de Beranger, using a pseudonym, announced that Napoleon had been killed in battle. The value of stocks rose, and a consortium including Lord Cochrane sold at great profit. Cochrane swore an affidavit that he had been deceived by Beranger. Created 1 April 1814. Stock exchanges.
