There are many faces of Shiva, generally he is lauded as the lord of sacrifices and songs, healer of remedies, grants prosperity and welfare to horses, sheep, cows, men and women, lord of nourishment, whom drives away diseases, and remover of sin. There is also a destructive side, as he is the wielder of the thunderbolt, bearer of bow and arrows and when mouted on his chariot he is as terrible, destructive and fierce as a wild beast.
