Gouache painting by an artist of Thanjavur (Tanjore), ca 1800 (?). Both wear saffron robes, raised sandals, beads around the neck and arms, and have tilaka (religious markings) painted on their foreheads, upper body and arms; the man has long hair and grey beard and wears beads in his earlobes; the woman wears her hair in a chignon and has gold earrings.
