Wall lights with candles were an important source of illumination in French interiors. They were always hung in pairs, often flanking a mirror that reflected the candlelight. The gilt bronze (ormolu) was in keeping with the gilded carving found on the walls of many rooms. Origin: Paris. Date: c 1750 – c 1760. Object ID: BK-16896-B.
