The frame’s model and outline are determined by auricular scrolls, but these are largely hidden behind realistic motifs from nature. Bol probably painted this portrait on the occasion of his second marriage, which took place in 1669. The large carved sunflowers symbolize love, and the frame as a whole represents luscious nature in its maturity. Date: c 1669. Object ID: SK-A-42.
