Sepulchral Monument of the Last Three Stuarts

Active selection in cart:
Vertical rectangle in shape with a dado below. A sarcophagus stands between Corinthian columns. It is supported by two crouching lions and decorated at the front with a representation of the coronation of the “Young Pretender” (most likely). Upon the cover are the royal and a bishop’s insignia, a helmet and a wand upon a cloth. Behind the sarcophagus rises a pedestal upon which sits at left the Cardinal of York and lean, at right the Young Pretender upon the column shaft, upon which stands James III in front of a canopy, with the royal coat-of-arms. On the dado is written with crayon: “[JA] COMO III – CARLO III – ENRICO IX DUCA DI [YORK].”. Made in: Italy and France. Date: 1780s. Record ID: chndm_1901-39-2513.
