Caption | In the center is a candelabrum with a bearded mask sticking out an enormous tong, below, with a cup in the center. From it emerge two animals’ heads, with ribbon-like reins which are held by a fantastic bat flying on top. Laterally are half-figures of a satyress at left, giving a stem to a satyr at right to eat. He satyr has an animal’s head, is facing her, and is supporting a bowl. The half figures rise from scrolls with a fantastic male sphinx below at left, head at right. At left a mermaid, at right a satyress and plants. Made in: Italy. Date: 1730s. Record ID: chndm_1901-39-173. |
