A gilt wood and metal casket depicting a scene. Oblong box with projecting base and cover, four flattened ball feet, and rosette and round knob-sides and cover gilt and punch-marked. Moulded and carved reliefs representing on front the Calydonian Boar Hunt; on back, the Judgment of Paris; on sides, the Baptism of the Samarians by Philip and Judith. On cover, two pairs of winged genii holding wreaths. Pilasters on corners, acanthus moulding on base and lower part of cover. Moulding with oak leaves on cover, which is hinged to body with simple eyelet hinges. Part of snap lock on front--corresponding part on cover missing. Made in: Northern Italy. Date: 1500s.
