Irish Industries, 1937: Knitted Woollen Goods

Active selection in cart:
Knitted Woollen Goods. In 1780 a firm was established in Balbriggan to manufacture hosiery, and since then Irish made hosiery of all classes has earned a place in the list of important Irish industries. The seventy factories now in existence have kept pace with modern development, and fourteen counties are represented in the list of establishments which are in a position to supply the very latest in silk or art silk stockings, or the most comfortable in knitted woollens. A proportion of the work is done by hand in rural areas, while convents and hand knitting centres contribute to the output. Illustration for one of a set of 50 cigarette cards on the subject of Irish Industries issued by Wills in 1937.
