Eau Gallee, Indian River, Florida

Active selection in cart:
Eau Gallee, Indian River, Florida. Eau Gallee, now that it has been brought into railway communication with St. Augustine and Jacksonville, has become one of the favorite resorts of the Southem tourist and health-seeker. The region is a charming one, both as to its delightful climate and its superb tropical flora. It can be reached from Jacksonville and the St. John River by a railroad journey of about one hundred and fifty miles to Titusville, thence by steamer down the Indian River to Eau Gallee, or other of the beautiful resorts of this elongated salt-water lagoon, or arm of the sea, as far south as Jupiter and Fort Worth, close to the Atlantic shore. The country watered by the Indian River is a paradise o beauty. The river itself teems with wing and fin, and is thus most attractive to the sportsman. In the former category are teal, mallard, marsh ben, plover, snipe, qual, and wild turkey: In the latter, muller, turtle, and the most delicious oysters. The lands on either side are very fertile, orchards alternating with strips of virgin nature in the most prolific colors and in the wildest disarray. To the Northerner the cocoanut, the pine apple, orange, and fig groves are no less inviting than is the prodigal luxuriance of the tropical flora, including the cypress, the magnolia, and the palm. Not the least among the objects of curious interest to the stranger are the gayly-plumed birds, reptile and Insect life, and the Indigenous alligator Eau.
