GPO Sidelights: Mobile Telephone Exchange Van

Active selection in cart:
Mobile Telephone Exchange Van. At least six months are necessary to build and equip a small automatic exchange in a country district. In order to meet emergencies while an exchange of this kind is being built or extended, the Post Office has designed a four-wheeled trailer vehicle completely equipped with power plant and automatic telephone switches for use as a small exchange for up to 100 subscribers. The mobile exchange is towed by a tractor to the site and the pneumatic-tyred wheels are removed and replaced by four heavy steel feet. One of a set of 50 cigarette cards on the subject of Interesting Sidelights On The Work Of The GPO published by Lambert and Butler in 1939. Lithographs based on photographs.
