Caption | Lord Mayor at St Lawrence Jewry. As a first step in the election of a new Lord Mayor, the serving Lord Mayor issues a precept to the Masters and Wardens of the various Guilds to summon their Liverymen to Guildhall. The Aldermen, Sheriffs and High Officers are notified by the Swordbearer's Office. They then proceed to the Church of St. Lawrence Jewry to hear Divine Service afterwards returning to Guildhall to proceed with the election. Nosegays are presented by the Hallkeeper to certain individuals. Illustration for one of a set of 40 cigarette cards on the subject of London Ceremonials issued by Mitchells in 1928. |
