Caption | Locking up the Tower of London. Every night the Tower of London is locked up at eleven o’clock with all the old ceremonial which has continued for over three centuries. The Chief Yeoman Warder obtains the keys, and accompanied by an escort goes round the various towers and locks the gates. He finally proceeds to the Guard House where the Guard has fallen in. The Officer of the Guard gives the order to present arms to the Guard and Escort, the Chief Warder takes off his hat and cries “God save King George.” Illustration for one of a set of 40 cigarette cards on the subject of London Ceremonials issued by Mitchells in 1928. |
