The universities of the Renaissance period, which often emerged from clerical colleges, mostly took over the former monastery library with its valuable old prints and manuscripts. The Jesuit colleges with mostly theological writings were added later. Such one-sided theological education partly prevented correct knowledge of our ancestors.
