Incident between Major Esterhazy and the former Colonel Picquart. An officer in military intelligence, Picquart had uncovered a letter suggesting that Esterhazy was a spy rather than the disgraced Captain Alfred Dreyfus. A cover-up by the French establishment led to Esterhazy being cleared of charges of espionage and Picquart, whose investigations led to the charges, being charged with forging the incriminating letter. Encountering Picquart on the Boulevard Victor Hugo in Paris, Esterhazy attacked him. Incident Esterhazy-Picquart. Illustration for Le Petit Journal, 17 July 1898.
