Our special artist in Africa

Our special artist in Africa, a series of illustrations – drawn by R De La Neziere – depicting an artist and his elephant; the artist going on an expedition into the interior with his trusty elephant; at dinner time the sagacious animal is a most attentive waiter; and what could be more pleasant at night than to be fanned to sleep; in the morning the resourceful beast provides a refreshing shower bath; and renders aid when our artist pines for a glimpse of the bright eyes of the pride of the harem; an afternoon's fishing proves most successful; while a native raid is by means of this valuable ally repulsed with great loss; and finally the animal hits upon a device by means of which the traveller can return in safety across a crocodile-infested river. Published in The Graphic Christmas Number, 1897.
