Guglielmo Marconi

Although this man was not the actual inventor of the radio, he did build the first long-distance transmitter, that with a kite aerial received signals in Newfoundland from Cornwall. Guglielmo Marconi (1874-1937) had an Italian father and  Irish mother. He worked all over the world and received the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1909 with Karl Ferdinand Braun.
