Blitz war

Active selection:
Not since the Great Fire of London in 1666 had Britain's capital been so devastated by fire as during the Blitz. One night, 900 German Luftwaffe aircraft bombed London's docks and soon most of the East End was ablaze. It took place in 1940-1941. The Germans called it "blitzkrieg," or "lightning war." The Blitz killed over 40,000 people and destroyed one million houses, but it did not demoralise the British people enough to allow a German invasion.
