De Forest's phonofilm process

Active selection:
De Forest filed a patent for his phonofilm process in 1919. He recorded some stage performances and speeches, but could not interest Hollywood in his invention. The first commercial talking picture was not released until 1927. It used record for the sound that had to be synchronized with the film. Eventually, the industry came back to De Forest's idea of recording the sound on the film itself.
