Wars of the Roses

Active selection:
Wars of the Roses. The period shown in the picture was perhaps the most tragic in all England's long history. The Wars of the Roses (1455-1485) were fought between the Houses of Lancaster and York, whose emblems were a red rose and a white rose. They are regarded as having begun with the Battle of St Albans on 22nd May 1455. After the war, to heal the breach, Henry VII married Elizabeth of York, daughter of Edward IV, in 1486.
