Okapi

Caption | Okapi, this animal lives deep in the forests of the Congo and was unknown to Europeans until 1897, when an English explorer found the skin of an animal new to zoologists. It was not until 1937 that the first one arrived at a zoo. The okapi has prehensile lips, meaning that they can be extended like fingers for picking foliage. Its horns do not grow from the skull but are rooted in the flesh of the head. Its colour scheme makes it nearly invisible in the forests where it lives. |
