Crossing Australia

Active selection:
The centre of Australia contains a vast desert. In 1860, Robert Burke, who was born in Ireland in 1820, and William Wills, who was born in Devon in 1834, crossed the desert from Victoria in the South to the Gulf of Carpentaria in the North. They died of starvation on the return journey.
