Vickers Vimy twin-engined bomber

Active selection:
Pilot John Alcock and navigator Arthur Brown were the first men to fly the Atlantic Ocean. They flew from St. John's Newfoundland to a soft and marshy meadow on the West coast of Ireland on June 14, 1919. They made the 1,890-mile journey in a converted Vickers Vimy twin-engined bomber. They were both knighted and received £10,000 from the newspaper magnate, Lord Northcliffe.
