Michaelangelo. A turning point came when one of his first statues was sold to a cardinal as a genuine Roman antique. The cardinal was furious with the dealer who had sold him the piece, but he recognised Michaelangelo's genius. One of the Cardinal's friends later became Pope Julius II, and commissioned many of the artist's most famous works. The statue of Bacchus shown here was made for the cheated Cardinal.
