Henri Dunant at the Battle of Solferino. Seeing the 40,000 dead and wounded soldiers on the battlefield led Henri to descripe his horror in a book, Un Souvenir de Solderino, in which he suggested the founding of a voluntary society to help the victims of war. This was subsequently founded as the Red Cross. From Look and Learn 1006 (20 June 1981).
