Italian scientist Gallileo Galilei on the tower of Pisa performing his experiment on falling bodies, c1591. Galileo dropped two objects from the top of the Leaning Tower of Pisa to disprove Aristotle's theory that heavy objects fall faster than light ones. Galileo's practical demonstration proves this is not so. Although Galileo was famous for his experiments, this story, which was told by Viviani, a student of Galileo's, may not be true.
