The flag was changed again in 1795 in recognition of the States of Kentucky and Vermont. It then remained unchanged until 1818 when there were more than twenty states, and Congress decided to add only stars and no more stripes, keeping just eleven to symbolise the original colonies. Original artwork for an illustration on p28 of L&L no. 139 (12 September 1966).
