Top left inset: Sir William Hamilton, collector of antiquities, who sold the vase to the Duchess of Portland. Top right inset: an amphora, or two-handled wine jar. Bottom left and centre: Josiah Wedgwood borrowed the vase and used its design on some of his stoneware. Bottom right: the Portland Vase.
