When Night becomes Day. A thorough cleaning of Rembrandt's masterpiece The Night Watch revealed that the picture was not of a night scene after all. A distinguished visitor views the painting as Rembrandt completes a section of The Night Watch and sees himself in the picture. Inset shows Self-Portrait by Rembrandt. Rembrandt left more than 100 self-portraits showing what he looked like from the time when he was a young man until his death in 1669. Original artwork for the illustrations on p23 of L&L issue no. 1005 (13 June 1981).
