Quack Hunters

Caption | Quack Hunters. As far as dishonest doctors were concerned, John Halle, a leading Elizabethan surgeon, was bad for business. He had many a quack whipped out of town, adding insult to injury by called them a bunch of "Pedlars, Tinkers, Rat-catchers, and Vagabonds". It is interesting to note that the word "quack" derives from the Dutch "quacksalver" who was a person who wandered the country selling salves and medicines. Original artwork for illustration on p31 of Look and Learn issue no 576 (27 January 1973). |
