Salvation Army. William Booth found he had a small tough army of brave soldiers behind him ready to fight. Outings, tea parties and suppers were all mixed with prayers, hymns and Bible readings. Booth called these gatherings "Jam and Glory Meetings". Inset shows William Booth in 1879 aged 50. Original artwork for illustration on p17 of Look and Learn issue no 655 (3 August 1974).
