"Soapy" Smith's Crooked Kingdom. Before they could reach the goldfields, the gold prospectors had to pass through a town where a gang of crooks led by "Soapy" Smith waited to relieve them of all the money they possessed. One of Soapy's gangsters masqueraded as a parson and took "greenhorns" to gambling houses where the proprietor could be trusted to fleece these unsuspecting victims. Original artwork for illustration on p7 of Look and Learn issue no 944 (23 February 1980).
