HMS Emperor

HMS Emperor. American merchant ships were converted into escort carriers for the Royal Navy in the Second World War. One of these, HMS Emperor, is seen here in Trincomales, a wartime naval port in Sri Lanka. Ships here were attached to the eastern feleet, which was engaged in fighting the Japanese. Original artwork for illustration on p7 of Look and Learn issue no 1024 (24 October 1981).
