|Caption||Seventeenth Century Feast. Although eating habits had changed dramatically by the 17th cntury, the food eaten by the rich and poor varied enormously. Some of the very rich might have as many as forty dishes on the table while the common labourer's simple by nourishing diet might consist solely of bread, beer and cheese.
