Roasted at the Stake

Active selection in cart:
Roasted at the Stake. In 1755, a British army was wiped out by the French and their Ottawa Indian allies in the forests of Pennsylvania. Some of the survivors were taken prisoner, marched back to the bank of the Alleghenny River, and, after their faces had been blackened with soot, were subjected to the appalling torments of torture and slow roasting at the stake, while the air resounded with the Indians' howls of triumph. Original artwork for illustration on p20 of Look and Learn issue no 471 (23 January 1971).
