The Fall of William the Conqueror. In a war against King Philip the First of France, England's William the Conqueror burned one of Philip's towns. Riding through the smouldering debris the King of England's horse slipped on a piece of burning wood and threw the rider. A few weeks later, William died from the effects of the fall.
