Rail Fever.  A Stephenson locomotive, North Star, hauled one of the inaugural trains at the formal opening of the broad-guage Great Western Railway in 1838.  The portrait is of Isambard Brunel, builder of the Great Western Railway.  The left inset shows the Stephensons' Planet, with its interior cylinders, which marked a step forward from engines of the Rocket type.  Original artwork for illustrations on pp16-17 of Look and Learn issue no 969 (4 October 1980).
