Caption | Campania. One of the largest and fastest of the early carriers was the ex-Cunard ship, Campania. The first successful take-off by a wheeled seaplane was made from this vessel in 1915. The ship had a displacement of 18,000 tons, achieved a speed of 23 knots and carried a crew of 600. Original artwork for illustration on p7 of Look and Learn issue no 1021 (3 October 1981). |
