After the Panama disaster, two men, an American and a Frenchman, came forward to persuade America to carry on building, and make a treaty with Colombia for rights over the canal. The Colombians arrived at Colon and demanded transport to Panama. They were given a coach and engine but when they arrived in Panama they were arrested. |
