The Man who Discovered Russia

Active selection in cart:
The Man who Discovered Russia. Richard Chancellor (inset) had originally been part of an expedition to find a north-east passage to China. Instead, he landed in Russia and sealed an important trade agreement with its Tsar, Ivan the Terrible. The illustration shows how, hammered by a storm, Richard Chancellor's ship found a safe anchorage at Vardo, the expedition's agreed rendezvous in an emergency. But none of the other ships arrived to join him. Original artwork.
