Caption | Foundation of Rome. Romulus ploughed a ceremonial furrow around the top of the Palatine Hill to mark the outline of the new city (left inset). The early city of Rome was simply a collection of simple huts set on the Palatine Hill. As the city grew, the Palatine Hill became a favourite location for the homes of the wealthier citizens. Original artwork for pp16–17 of Look and Learn issue no 1006 (20 June 1981). |
