Caption | Grey Owl. Archibald Belaney was born in Hastings, England, in 1888. During his time at Hastings Grammar School he became fascinated by American Indians. In 1906 he sailed to Halifax, Canada, and began work as a fur-trapper. During his time there, he married a lady from the Ojjibwa and adopted the name 'Grey Owl'.
