Anglo Saxon Feast

Active selection in cart:
Anglo Saxon Feast. One custom of Anglo Saxon times was to distribute food after a feast. The servants had first pickings, then the remainder was given to the poor, as we see above. Another custom at banquets was for the lady of the house to fill the guests' cups, mainly with ale or beer, but sometimes with wine or mead. After a battle the honour of being served first would go to the senior warrior. Original artwork for illustration on p22 of Look and Learn issue no 706 (26 July 1975).
