This picture shows the murder of Louis, Duke of Orleans during the 100 Years War. As the shoemaker’s wife looked down, she saw masked men murdering a nobleman who had been dragged from his horse. She screamed until one of the attackers shouted up at her. The man that lay dead was Louis, Duke of Orleans, brother of the French King, murdered by minions of the Duke of Burgundy.

During the annual flooding, the Nile spread fine soil, in which crops would grow, over the desert. This was an annual miracle worthy of a ceremony of thanksgiving to the beneficient gods.

On the right is the weekly ration of food on which each Briton went to war. Foreign food like bananas vanished from the shops. Children grew up without having seen them and, when, offered a banana by a sailor home from overseas, often refused them because they did not know what they were (left).
