Hansel and Gretel

Posted in Fairy Tale, Heroes and Heroines, Historical articles, History, Literature, Magic on Saturday, 21 November 2015

The fairy tale of Hansel and Gretel is a brilliant and surreal fantasy involving edible houses and cannibalistic witches. But central to the story is the poor Woodcutter’s tragic abandonment of his children under instructions from their cruel stepmother, and this exquisite picture is a beautifully painted representation of the sympathetic characters and the pathos of their parting.
