5 June is the anniversary of the birth of Pat Garrett. The famous American lawman was born in 1850 and appointed sheriff of Lincoln County, New Mexico, in 1880. Garrett’s name is forever associated with that of the outlaw Henry McCarty, also known as William Bonney and as Billy the Kid. Garrett tracked the Kid down in Fort Sumner and killed him.
