3 June marks two anniversaries in the history of classical music, the deaths of Georges Bizet in 1875 and of Johann Strauss the younger in 1899. Strauss is best known for his waltzes (The Blue Danube, Die Fledermaus), whilst Bizet composed the opera about a fiery Gypsy called Carmen and her romance with a Spanish soldier, Don José.
